Virginia is dominated by gorgeous mountains and valleys in the western part of the state. One of the best ways to experience this beautiful region is to stay in a cabin!
Cabins in the Virginia mountains come in all different varieties, ranging from luxury cabins, to romantic cabins, to rustic and primitive cabins that may not even have running water.
Booking a stay in a cabin can be a perfect way to get even closer to nature. Cabins are often much more secluded and private compared to staying at a hotel or motel.
You can stay at a cabin, chill in a hot tub on the deck, roast marshmallows on a fire pit in the backyard, or sit on the porch and watch deer wander through the woods. It’s truly a magical experience!
Depending on what kind of cabin experience you’re looking for, from rustic to luxury and everything in between, I have all my top recommendations for you below!

Shadow Mountain Escape (Luray, VA)
Shadow Mountain Escape is one of the top romantic cabin destinations in Virginia! They even offer special packages for Honeymoons, Elopements, and Vow Renewals.
The property is conveniently located near Shenandoah National Park, Luray Caverns, and the “Blue Ridge Whisky Wine Loop”, which means you’ll have plenty of activities to choose from, including scenic drives, hiking, and visiting wineries, distilleries, and breweries.
The unique, authentic timber frame cabins are inspired by traditional European designs.
Some cabins, like the two-story Bumblebee Cabin, have queen beds and plenty of space.

Inn at Vaucluse Spring (Stephens City, VA)
The Inn at Vaucluse Spring, near Winchester, VA, features a Manor House, a log and stone house, and 3 romantic cabins. It’s a year-round wedding venue named after Vaucluse Spring, which is a lovely limestone spring located nearby.

One of the perks is the daily breakfast, which is made with locally sourced ingredients. The Inn also offers Mindful Mornings for meditation, gentle yoga, and mindful walking. You can even book a more immersive mini-mindfulness retreat.
Steeles Tavern Manor (Steeles Tavern, VA)
Steeles Tavern Manor, a historic gem from the 18th century, is a top-rated romantic destination in Virginia, earning the #1 spot on TripAdvisor!
The centerpiece is a stunning grand manor home, which has private cabins and guest rooms. Breakfast is served daily and features delicious options like Louisiana-style bread pudding, breakfast enchiladas, and more.
The cabin decor is punctuated by wood-beamed walls and ceilings and grand stone fireplaces. Each cabin includes a remodeled walk-in shower, a front porch, and an additional deck with a hot tub.

Hot Tub Heaven (Linden, VA)
With a name like Hot Tub Heaven, you know you’re in for a treat of a retreat! The cabins are located in Linden, VA, on Blue Mountain.

Each cabin also includes, naturally, its own hot tub!
There are even massage services on-site to help make your stay even more relaxing!
Another amenity on site is Deer Lake, which is available for swimming and fishing.
All of the cabins are also dog-friendly.
Autumn Ridge Cottages (Lexington, VA)
Nestled in historic Lexington, VA, Autumn Ridge Cottages is another great choice for a romantic cabin vacation.
You can book one of four cottages, including the Twinleaf Cottage, the Bayberry Cottage, Deerfield Cottage, and Ridgeview Cottage.
Each cottage features a bathroom, bed or separate bedroom, living area, kitchen, and a whirlpool jacuzzi hot tub!
The interior design is highlighted by warm wood-paneled walls and ceilings, and several of the cottages also have an inviting fireplace.
Autumn Ridge is perfect for couples because it offers several special packages perfectly catered to couples, including single or couples massages, couples kayaking excursions, and special occasion baskets that include flowers, chocolates and champagne and make a perfect gift to celebrate an anniversary or honeymoon!
If you want an extra bit of indulgence, you can book one of several luxury cabins in the Virginia mountains. Luxury cabins often feature more upscale amenities like heated floors, gas fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling windows, and jacuzzis.

Each room has top amenities like a full kitchen, private hot tub, screened-in deck, fireplace, and heated bathroom floors.
The Iris Inn really offers the best of all worlds. You can stay at the secluded cabins, but then walk to the main Inn for dinner, a full-service spa, and other amenities!

It features beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and countryside, which you can enjoy from the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, or from the spacious deck.
The cabin is located close to Abingdon, which is one of my favorite Virginia vacation destinations! You’ll be close to the incredible rails-to-trails Virginia Creeper Trail and Grayson Highlands State Park.
Cozy cabins fill that sweet spot between luxury cabins and rustic cabins. You can find adorable log cabins that are filled with charm and character.
Cozy cabins usually have most of the amenities you’d need, including a full kitchen, but they may have less space and less luxury amenities like a private hot tub that you’d find at a more upscale cabin.
Lydia Mountain Lodge and Log Cabins (Standardsville, VA)
For those seeking a cozy log cabin with a great location, Lydia Mountain Lodge and Log Cabins is an excellent choice!

Hungry Mother State Park (Smythe County, VA)
Hungry Mother State Park is located down in Smythe County in southwest Virginia. The park has a long history and is one of six original state parks in Virginia.
The descriptive name of the park is thought to be derived from a legend of a woman and child who escaped in the woods searching for food. When the mother collapsed, the daughter went searching for help and could only utter the words “hungry mother.” The mother later died at the foot of the mountain.
There is a 108-acre lake in the park, plus beautiful mountain scenery all around. You can go fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking, or canoeing on the lake. There are also 17 miles of hiking trails through the park.
The cabins range in size from an efficiency to a 2 bedroom. There are also log cabins in the park for the perfect mountain escape.
The cabins have many of the same amenities as the other state parks, with kitchens, living rooms, and bathrooms. As with the other lodgings, you will have to bring food, linens, and soap.
Note that some of the cabins do not have a full kitchen.
Hungry Mother also has three yurts that you can book. Yurts do not have electricity, heat, A/C, or water, but they do have a bed and living area.
