Hotels Outside Charlottesville
The following hotels are located further outside Charlottesville, however they offer an abundance of amenities and have the added benefit of providing lovely views of the surrounding hills and mountains plus a more tranquil escape from the city.
The Farmhouse at Veritas

The Farmhouse at Veritas has a lot of history and charm. It was built in July 1839. It is a bed and breakfast that is part of the larger Veritas Vineyards complex. The property includes sprawling fields with sheep grazing and grape vines.
The Veritas Farmhouse has a charming design featuring sitting rooms with large cozy chairs and furniture. The Farmhouse also features a restaurant that is not to be missed. It has a limited nightly seating capacity. which creates a very personal experience. The meals at The Restaurant are pre-planned and feature 4 farm-to-table courses – an appetizer, salad, main course, and dessert. Each of these dishes also features a unique wine pairing to complement the dish. Breakfasts are also offered at The Restaurant for guests of The Farmhouse.
I have eaten at The Restaurant twice, and both experiences featured absolutely delicious and creative dishes, and I highly recommend making reservations to have a meal there.

Wintergreen Resort

Wintergreen Resort is another retreat from Charlottesville that offers a great, scenic break from the city. During the Winter, as the name suggests, it is a popular ski resort.
Wintergreen is a great place to visit at other times of the year too, though. I traveled there with friends during July, and the weather was much more mild and less humid compared to areas in Northern Virginia or in the eastern part of the state. We were able to walk to a nearby overlook with expansive views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.
Another benefit of Wintergreen is that it provides easy access to literally dozens of nearby wineries, cideries, and distilleries.
You can book the resort directly through their website here, but you can also book one of the properties through VRBO and AirBnB.
