Looking for the best Luray Caverns hotels?

Luray Caverns is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Virginia, and for good reason!

The caverns are the largest caves east of the Mississippi River! They feature spectacular natural formations like The Great Stalacpipe Organ and Titania’s Veil.

When planning your next trip to Luray Caverns, there are a number of great hotels to choose from.

My personal favorite pick is Mimslyn Inn. I had the chance to spend a weekend there and had a fantastic time!

I’ll also let you know about my other Luray Caverns hotel recommendations, including the best luxury and best budget hotel choices, the best cabins, and the best pet-friendly hotels!

Best Overall Luray Caverns Hotel

Mimslyn Inn

Mimslyn Inn is my top hotel recommendation when visiting Luray Caverns. The location is excellent. Luray Caverns are just a 4-minute drive from the hotel. Downtown Luray and numerous restaurants are also close by.

Lobby at the Mimslyn Inn

The hotel itself is gorgeous, with a stunning brick exterior highlighted by towering columns and an inviting porch with lounge chairs. The hotel sits high on top of a hill, and features beautiful sunset views.

The interior is equally beautiful, with a large, spacious lounge and fireplace greeting you when you first step inside.

The standard rooms are a little on the small side, but they feature historic details and decor that give them character and warmth. One cool feature is that the beds are covered in quilts with an elaborate design of the Mimslyn Inn itself. The quilts were handmade by a local artist, which is very cool! I wanted to buy one, they were so neat!

You can also book a larger suite with a separate sitting area, pull-out sofa beds, a fireplace, mini fridge, and jet tub.

Beyond traditional rooms, you can also choose to book one of several cottages on the property.

The cottages feature more space and bonus amenities that are perfect for a larger family. Each cottage includes a queen bed and sofa bed, a full bath with jetted tub, a Kitchenette, a fireplace, a front porch, and even a private hot tub!

The hotel features two restaurants, Circa ‘31 Restaurant and the Speakeasy Restaurant, and I recommend eating at them during your visit.

I had a delicious dinner at the Circa ‘31 Restaurant. I sat on the outdoor patio with lovely views of the town and surrounding hills at sunset.

My meal was excellent. I ordered the watermelon salad and swordfish. For dessert, I had a decadent chocolate peanut butter dish. Everything was creatively prepared.

The restaurant serves breakfast too, including Sunday Brunch. The menu includes Southern Biscuits and Sausage Gravy; Baked Grand Marnier French Toast with Brown Sugar Crumble and Assorted Toppings; Mimslyn Pasta Salad; Tomato Cucumber Salad; Chef Carved Roast Beef with Au Jus and Horseradish Sauce; Chicken Cacciatore & Herb Roasted Pork; and Baked Salmon with French Mustard.

Mimslyn Inn has several excellent amenities, including an outdoor pool and hot tub. There is also a nice outdoor space behind the hotel with hammocks and Adirondack chairs that is perfect for lounging and relaxing.

Mimslyn Inn also has a nice little gift shop with cute locally made jewelry and crafts, plus local wine from DuCard Vineyards (one of my favorite local wineries!) plus some snacks and drinks that you can bring to your room.

Best Luxury Luray Caverns Hotel

Hotel Lawrence

Hotel Lawrence is an excellent luxury hotel option that is generally a little more expensive than the Mimslyn Inn.

It is located just a few minutes down the road from the Mimslyn Inn in downtown Luray. This location makes it a little further from Luray Caverns, but closer to restaurants and shops in the downtown area.

Hotel Lawrence is a great choice if you’re looking for a sleek and modern boutique hotel. The beautiful design also makes it a popular choice for weddings and other special events.

The hotel design is a combination of vintage details like exposed brick walls, rich wood trimmed doors and stairways, and built-in bookcases; as well as modern decor like black and white furniture and Crystal chandeliers.

The hotel has a rich history that dates all the way back to 1830!

Hotel Lawrence is very intimate, with just 12 suites! Each suite is spacious and features a kitchenette with refrigerator, oven, stove, and sink; dining area; living room with sofa; bedroom; and bathroom.

The hotel does not have some of the extra amenities that you’ll find at the Mimslyn Inn, like a pool or fitness center. However it’s a great choice for weddings, special events, and luxurious, modern accommodations.

Best Budget Luray Caverns Hotel

Luray Caverns Motel East

Luray Caverns Motel East is a great budget hotel near Luray Caverns. The location is perfect. In fact, you can’t get much closer than the Luray Caverns Motel East. It’s just a 2-minute drive from the caverns. It’s also a great budget-friendly choice.

The motel earns high marks for clean rooms and friendly staff, though the furnishings are a bit dated.

The standard rooms have free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers, and even mountain views. You can also book an upgraded room with a balcony, mini-fridge, and microwave.

You’re not going to find all of the extra amenities at the motel. The motel does have a pool but there is no fitness center or breakfast. Nevertheless, it’s a fine choice if you just need a clean bed and bathroom.

Luray Caverns Motel West is an alternate place to stay nearby. It’s a companion hotel to the Luray Caverns Motel East and features similar rooms and amenities to the, but it’s a little further from the caverns. It is just a 3-minute drive from Luray Caverns.

You won’t find extra amenities at the Motel West, but the rooms are clean and the price and location are generally the best in town.

Things to Do Near Luray Caverns

One of the best parts about visiting Luray Caverns is that some of the best attractions in town are right next door!

A home from the Shenandoah Heritage Museum - one of the best things to do in Luray, Virginia

Even better, your entrance ticket to Luray Caverns will get you free admission to many of those sites!

When you park in the main parking lot to see the caverns, you’ll also see the Car and Carriage Caravan Museum, which is filled with about 50 cool vintage cars, including an 1897 Mercedes-Benz, which is one of the oldest functioning cars in the United States, plus a 1925 Rolls-Royce. I’m not even the biggest car fan, and I thought the museum was really cool!

Next, I recommend checking out Toytown Junction, which features vintage toys from the early 20th century to today. You’ll see classic dolls, rocking horses, train sets, houses, games, and much more. I saw some toys that I remembered back in my childhood, and it was a fun trip down memory lane!

Then, you can visit the Shenandoah Heritage Museum, which is an excellent walking museum that features replicas of homes, a school, and church, all dating back to the 19th century.

Within the same area as these sites, you’ll also find two more top attractions in town: The Garden Maze and Rope Adventure Park. Both require an extra admission ticket, but they’re fun for kids and families.
