Gander Island Cabins

Description

Gander Island Cabins has three cabins available for a mountain getaway. The cabins are located between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah River. The cabins are a perfect destination for any nature lover.

There are 7.5 acres on the property, which is perfect for letting dogs run around in the fresh open mountain air.

The cabins are located near Luray, VA, which has a wide variety of great activities. You can check out my top recommendations for things to do in Luray, including the Luray Caverns, The Garden Maze, Shenandoah National Park, Luray Wineries, and much more!

There are a number of other great amenities, including a six-person hot tub, a boat launch area with canoe, volleyball courts, horseshoes, a charcoal grill for barbequing, a fire pit, and picnic table.

There are also lots of wildlife that you can enjoy while lounging on the cabin decks, including geese, eagles, ospreys, and herons. Plus the cabins are located right near the Shenandoah River, so you can enjoy the relaxing river sounds and sights during your stay.

Hawksbill Retreat Cabins

Description

Hawksbill Retreat Cabins are also located near Luray, VA. They have different accommodations available, depending on your needs and budget.

You can stay at The Lodge, which can accommodate large gatherings of up to 25 people (with a minimum of 16 adults). This makes it a good option for family reunions, parties, or corporate events. Some of the great modern amenities at The Lodge include a full kitchen, 10 bedrooms, a 7-person hot tub, and a game room. The Lodge also features lovely mountain views and a full wrap-around porch.

For smaller groups, you can book the Mare House at Hawksbill Retreat. There are 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, and the property can accommodate up to 8 guests. There is a living room with a sleeper sofa and a flat screen tv. Some of the other amenities include a fire pit, a large deck, and a 6-person hot tub.

For families, you can rent one of the pet-friendly cabins (note that some of the cabins are pet-friendly and some of them are not). These cabins are perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway, or for small families. The cabins include a private bath, kitchen, electric fireplace, and a deck with a rocking chair.

The property has no shortage of activities to enjoy the great outdoors. There are over two miles of walking trails, which is great for exploring nature and taking the dog for a walk. There is also a 1-acre stocked fishing pond. You can also use the Olympic-sized swimming pool nearby at Hawksbill Recreational Park.

Cabin Creekwood

Description

Cabin Creekwood is a pet-friendly property located near Wintergreen Resort, about 40 miles west of Charlottesville. It is close to Shenandoah National Park, as well as great hiking trails like Crab Tree Falls. You are also close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive.

Cabin Creekwood is full of history. They even have a very unique 1-bedroom log cabin that dates from before the Civil War! You can also stay in the 2-bedroom Mountainwood cabin or the 3-bedroom Oakwood cabin if you need more room to spread out.

Each of the cabins has a living room. The 1-bedroom cabin has a kitchenette, while the larger cabins have full kitchens. The larger cabins also have barbeque grills, dishwashers, and other amenities. You can find a full list of amenities for each cabin online.

Fariss Farms

Description

Fariss Farms is a great pet-friendly destination in Allisonia, VA, which is located in southwestern Virginia. The cabins have been fully updated, but they date back over 150 years!

There are several cabins available, including The Cabin (6 guests), The Store (8 guests), and The Section Foreman’s House (6 guests). The cabins include a full kitchen, laundry, patio, and front porch.

There is even a winery on the property, which guests can easily visit directly from The Section Foreman’s House.

There are a lot of great activities nearby, including walking on the New River Trail or riding along the New River.

The Cabins at Crabtree Falls

Description

As you can guess from the name, The Cabins at Crabtree Falls are located right next to one of my favorite spots in Virginia: Crab Tree Falls! The location is about 50 miles west of Charlottesville.

Dogs are allowed in all of the cabins, with a two-dog maximum. There is also a non-refundable pet fee of $50 per day.

The cabins are located just a half-mile away from the falls and only six miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can actually hear the falls from your deck!

There are five cabins on the property. They each include air conditioning, a full kitchen, a fire pit, and charcoal grills.

For an extra touch of history, you can stay at Richard’s Retreat, which is an authentic Appalachian cabin that was transplanted from Kentucky. It dates back to 1798! Richard’s Retreat also has an outdoor hot tub.

You can also book other activities, like a horseback riding vineyard tour! The tour includes a wine tasting and picnic lunch.

Natural Retreats – Hot Springs

Natural Retreats is another great destination for a pet-friendly vacation. They offer the perfect nature retreat in the Alleghany Mountains of western Virginia. It is located about 90 miles west of Charlottesville.

The property has over 400 acres of land and offers lovely mountain views, hiking trails, stables, fishing streams, and much more. There are other great fitness amenities including an outdoor pool, outdoor hot tubs, saunas, a game room, and a fitness center.

There are a number of different accommodations you can book, depending on your needs. Some of the properties are pet-friendly, such as the Donald Ross Trail Home, which has 5 private bedrooms, 5 full bathrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, dining room, outdoor grill, and shared pool and hot tub.

The Herdsman Cottage is also pet-friendly. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a dining room, a game room, and a shared pool.

The Springfield Cottage also allows dogs. It has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

Montfair Resort Farm

Montfair Resort Farm is another great mountain destination that is also pet-friendly! Pets are allowed in the cabins for an additional fee.

The property is just 30 minutes from Charlottesville, near Shenandoah National Park, and in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Montfair Resort Farm has a number of rustic cabins that you can rent. They include kitchens or kitchenettes, a charcoal grill, and a deck.

The property sits on 129 acres and includes a number of great outdoor activities. You can go fishing in the pond, canoeing in the lake, bird watching on the trails, and stargazing at night. There is even a tennis and basketball court for more recreational activities.

While staying at Montfair Resort Farm, you can also use the mountain bikes and canoes that are available for guests.

Occoneechee State Park Cabins

Description

Occoneechee State Park is further away from the Shenandoah Valley, but it is another great location for nature lovers and their pets.

The park is located in Clarksville, VA, near the southern border with North Carolina. It is about a 2-hour drive south of Richmond, about a 3-hour drive from Virginia Beach, and about a 2.5-hour drive from Roanoke.

The park is a great pet-friendly destination. There are 11 cabins, 2 lodges, 3 yurts, and 45 campsites for tents and RVs. The cabins include a kitchen, deck, and fireplace. Note that no linens are provided, so you will have to bring your own linens.

The cabins also have access to a picnic table, charcoal grill, wrap-around deck, and porch with rocking chairs.

Some of the cabins also have a water view.

There are also two larger lodges that each have six bedrooms, which is great for larger group gatherings and gives you plenty of room for the entire family.

Occoneechee State Park is great for nature lovers. There are over 20 miles of hiking trails where you can walk, bike, or horseback ride. The park is also home to the largest lake in Virginia! You can rent boats, go fishing, or go swimming. There is also a playground and splash pad.
