Perfectly Pastalicious: A Memorable Meal at Sfoglina in Rosslyn

Sfoglina is a standout dining experience and one of the best Italian restaurants in Rosslyn, VA. Nestled in the bustling cityscape, it manages to create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere that feels like stepping into an authentic Italian kitchen.

They specialize in handmade pasta, fresh ingredients, and a creative take on classic Italian dishes. It’s a perfect spot for a special outing with friends, a casual yet elevated dinner, or even a memorable date night.

I recently visited Sfoglina with a group of friends, and we had an absolutely amazing time! From the delicious Spritz Tower we ordered to the incredible homemade pasta dishes, every detail of our evening was memorable. It’s clear why this restaurant has such a stellar reputation.

Sfoglina’s menu is a celebration of Italian culinary tradition, particularly focused on fresh, handmade pasta. Every bite showcases the care and craftsmanship of their chefs.

We started our evening with a Spritz Tower, a fun and refreshing way to sample several of their excellent cocktails at once!

Each spritz had its own unique flavor, from citrusy and bright to rich and herby. It comes delivered to your table like a towering tree of wine glasses! It’s very impressive! It was a fantastic start to our meal and set the tone for a great evening.

For cheese lovers out there, you’re in luck, because Sfoglina features a Mozzarella Bar! Here you’ll find dishes like the Grande Mozzarella di Bufala, a must-try from Campania, and the creamy Burrata della Campania.

My friends ordered the Grilled Spiced Wild Calamari served with almond romesco and charred red peppers. Even though it’s an appetizer, the dish is filling enough to serve as a flavorful meal. 

Other appetizer options include the Nonna Palmina’s Meatballs in a rich tomato sauce topped with Parmigiano, and the Mussels Nduja with Nduja spices, herbs, Calabrese chili, and rosemary toast.

When it comes to pasta, this is where Sfoglina really shines. Their menu is always changing, and they regularly feature daily specials.

You’ll find a wide selection of pasta specialties like the Pappardelle with Ragu Bolognese and Parmigiano Reggiano, which is rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. 

Fabio’s Ravioli San Leo offers a very different experience with goat cheese, herbs, and lemon zest. And the Spicy Squid Ink Tagliatelle with Gulf shrimp, aglio e olio, parsley, burricotta cheese, and pane fritto, provides a unique and memorable taste.

Beyond pasta, Sfoglina has a variety of meat and fish dishes, like the Braised Beef Short Rib, Pollo Saltimbocca, and Grilled Branzino Puttanesca. 

And Sfoglina does not disappoint when it comes to dessert. I ordered a rich Piemontese Gianduja with hazelnuts and chocolate ganache. You’ll also find the favorite Italian trademark Tiramisu, with mascarpone, cocoa, and coffee-soaked sponge. If you want a unique treat, try the Apple Cider Sorbetto. 

Ambiance and Atmosphere

Sfoglina in Rosslyn is a sprawling space that’s elegant without being pretentious. The interior features warm lighting, soft hues, and a mix of cozy tables and spacious booths. 

There are bold posters on the wall celebrating Italy and pasta that give the space a bit of a fun retro Italian vacation vibe while still feeling modern and stylish. 

There’s also an open kitchen area, where you can see chefs meticulously crafting their handmade pasta – a nod to their dedication to quality.

The restaurant has a lively, upbeat energy that makes it a great place for catching up with friends or celebrating a special occasion. When we visited, there were numerous tables festooned with big balloons and large groups celebrating birthdays and other special events.

Despite the buzz of the dining room, it doesn’t feel overwhelming. We were seated in a private booth not far from the bar and kitchen, and it felt very private and cozy. 

Location and Accessibility

Sfoglina’s location in the heart of Rosslyn makes it convenient for both locals and visitors. It’s a short walk from the Rosslyn Metro Station and easily accessible by car, with several nearby parking garages.

In fact, the closest parking garage is right underneath the restaurant at 1100 Wilson Blvd. Parking validation is available after 5 pm. There is also metered street parking and other parking garages nearby. 

The restaurant itself is located near the entrance of a large office building. 

The restaurant is at street level, and the layout is designed to be accessible for all guests. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or settling in for a long dinner, the restaurant’s central location adds to its appeal.

Service Quality

The service at Sfoglina was fabulous from start to finish. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and gave excellent recommendations based on our preferences.

Our drinks and dishes arrived promptly, and everything was presented beautifully. The staff’s enthusiasm for the food and their attention to detail added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. It’s clear that they take pride in creating a memorable dining experience for their guests.

Final Verdict

Sfoglina is a true gem in Rosslyn, VA. From the fresh, homemade pasta to the thoughtfully curated drink menu, it offers an authentic taste of Italy in a stylish and welcoming setting.

Whether you’re planning a night out with friends, a romantic dinner, or just want to treat yourself to a delicious meal, Sfoglina is an excellent choice. I’m already looking forward to my next visit – and to ordering another Spritz Tower!
