National Cherry Blossom Festival
• When: Continuing through April 12, 2026
• Where: Northern Virginia & Washington, D.C.
• What: While the peak bloom often hits in late March, the festivities continue well into April. Don’t miss the Petalporch displays throughout Alexandria and Arlington, where local residents decorate their homes in vibrant pinks.
Bluebells at the Bend Festival
• When: Early April (Peak bloom typically mid-April)
• Where: Riverbend Park, Great Falls
• What: Celebrate the emergence of the iconic Virginia Bluebells along the Potomac River. This family-friendly event features live music, food trucks, and wagon rides through the carpeted wildflower woodlands.

• What: Formerly known as Founder’s Day, this community festival commemorates the unique history and vision of Reston with live entertainment, local vendors, and family activities.
Central Virginia (Richmond & Charlottesville)
April Fools Festival at James River Cellars
• When: April 18, 2026
• Where: Glen Allen (Richmond area)
• What: Central Virginia’s longest-running wine party celebrates its 23rd year. Enjoy tastings from multiple Virginia wineries, live music, and local food trucks in a beautiful vineyard setting.

• What: A vibrant showcase of local and regional dance artists. The festival features professional showcases as well as a “Next Generation” performance highlighting youth ensembles.
Historic Garden Week (Statewide)
• When: April 18–25, 2026
• Where: Various locations including Richmond, Charlottesville, and Orange County
• What: Known as “America’s Largest Open House,” this 8-day event allows visitors to tour some of Virginia’s most beautiful private homes and gardens. In honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary, many 2026 tours focus on properties linked to the founding era.
Coastal Virginia (Hampton Roads & Eastern Shore)
45th Annual Easter Decoy & Art Festival
• When: April 3–4, 2026
• Where: Chincoteague Combined School, Chincoteague Island
• What: A beloved Shore tradition where local and national carvers showcase hand-crafted decoys. You’ll also find fine art, jewelry, and photography, making it a perfect spot for spring gift shopping.
73rd Annual Parade of Nations & NATO Festival
• When: April 18, 2026
• Where: Downtown Norfolk
• What: The only parade in the U.S. to honor NATO. See over 100 units, including international military bands and colorful floats representing every NATO member nation, followed by a cultural festival in Town Point Park.
Battleship Wisconsin 82nd Anniversary
• When: Mid-April 2026
• Where: Nauticus, Norfolk
• What: Celebrate the history of one of the largest battleships ever built by the U.S. Navy. The day features special “behind-the-scenes” tours, educational programs, and exclusive access to areas typically closed to the public.

99th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival
• When: April 24 – May 3, 2026
• Where: Winchester
• What: “The Bloom” is one of Virginia’s oldest and most famous traditions. April events include the Wine Fest (April 24-25), the Apple Blossom Carnival, and the coronation of Queen Shenandoah.
• When: April 18, 2026
• Where: Roanoke
• What: Known as “America’s Toughest Road Marathon,” this event brings a high-energy atmosphere to the Star City. The race is accompanied by the “Down by Downtown” music festival, featuring live bands at venues across the city all weekend long.
